Scenario
19-year-old Liane lives with her mother and sister in Fréjus, in the south of France. Wounded by her desire for beauty and stardom, she takes part in the reality show “Isle of Wonders”. Agathe Riedinger’s film does not reproduce romantic clichés. It is wonderfully authentic and, like life, not sugary. Impeccable acting and development of characters that are difficult not to get attached to. A great script, deliberately – with a maturity rarely seen among debuts – avoiding the paths of drama. The director hints at them and then consistently leads us down another path. The reality of this film is far from the black and white simplifications to which we have become accustomed after decades of patriarchal storytelling. Here, the woman is the subject. Beautiful cinema, an incredible debut. 10/10.
